Eco-responsible travel with the green map of destinations!
By clicking on certain European partners on our map of international academic partnerships, you will find information on the means of transport to get there: train and plane, with the average journey times, the number of connections and the rate. CO2 emissions for each mode of transport. This is the green map of destinations!
Only those destinations were selected for which the comparison of modes of transport is relevant. These data serve as an indicator (average baseline), they will be updated every 3 years.
Train travel time It represents the shortest travel time with the least amount of transfers, from Angers/Rennes to the destination station, it includes the connection time, especially in Paris. |
Aeroplane travel time It represents flight time + additional time before departure and after arrival to reach the city of destination. |
Number of transfers It is the shortest possible number of transfers to reach the destination, including train or bus transfers. |
CO2 emission (Kg): flight versus train The aeroplane CO2 emission rate is 230 gCO2e/km/person for a distance between 500 and 1000 km, and 186 gCO2e/km/person for a distance between 1000 and 2000 km. The train CO2 emission rate is 1.73 gco2e/km/person. The distances are estimated in a straight line, this distance is identical for train and plane and does not reflect the reality of the journey. Results are rounded to the kilogram. |
Comfort label It is awarded when the longest train of the journey (excluding night trains) is one hour longer than the flight time and has 3 or less connections. This is the useful time the traveler has on the same train for reading, studying, working, writing etc. |
Night train It is awarded when the journey offers a trip with a sleeping service. |
